The thing that's so consistently annoying about old people is that they always think they're right even when they couldn't be more wrong. I mentioned yesterday about the whole "hey we're moving across the country" thing. Let's briefly recreate that stellar moment in Wanabi family history.
"Justina, your dad and I have something we want to tell you. We're moving across the country in six weeks."
"Are we moving to New York?"
"No."
"Are we moving someplace cool?"
"Yes. We're moving to Philadelphia."
"Philadelphia?? What the hell am I gonna do in Philadelphia?"
"Language!"
"No seriously, why would you make me move to Philadelphia? There are NO kids like me in Philadelphia. They're all, like, Quakers or something."
"That's ridiculous."
"Well there aren't cool people there. How many times have you heard of like a celebrity or something being from there or living there? Like about zero times!"
"Justina I happen to know that there are lots of kids just like you there and in fact we've already found a neighborhood where some of those kids live. I suspect that if you give it a chance you're going to be very surprised about just how cool Philadelphia can be."
Yeah, right. Okay let's talk about the cool factor because it will only take about two seconds. Me. I'm the entire cool factor in this deadbeat town as far as I can tell.
Kids here are like different somehow. They just aren't as open minded or creative as the kids in California are. And they're hella lacking in the style department. I've seen more girls in my school wearing high waisted jeans - and I mean so not the super cool AG ones that sold out in like five seconds last fall. Okay sure, considering that I go to private school there are definitely some kids here who can rock it in the world of fashion but they're totally in the minority.
And another thing with the kids here; they have this big fat chip on their shoulder about being from here. Like they always talk down about their own hometown. I mean I hate it here for sure but like, I'm not from here and I'm not gonna stay here as soon as I can leave. But then like if I say something negative about this place, even if I just agree with something negative one of them says, they get all defensive and pissed off and stuff. Honestly nobody back home ever fights about shit like this. We're ALL super stoked being from the Golden State! Duh.
So anyway, as per usual my mom has no idea what she's talking about and half the time it's like she doesn't even know me, which she doesn't since obviously I try and keep half of what I do, think and say a secret from her. But still it's not like I haven't lived with her for my entire life, long enough for her to have SOME clues about who I am and what kind of kids are "like" me.
